I took up painting after retiring from teaching and moving to Exmoor full time. I began with watercolour, using beautiful locally handmade paper from Two Rivers, taking inspiration from the wonderful and varied landscapes nearby. Exmoor has open moorland, coast, hidden valleys… And ever-changing light and skies. It is an artist’s dream, in all seasons. I am continuing now to explore different mediums - oils, acrylics and pastels - to achieve different effects on various different surfaces, and moving away from using photographs as a starting point to letting my imagination and memory have full rein. Exmoor continues to be my main focus, but I have painted a wide range of subjects on request and for particular projects, from cathedrals to meerkats, and I love to take on new challenges!
I have held a solo exhibition in Dulverton, and exhibit regularly in the Ten Parishes Festival. As a finalist in a national competition, one of my paintings was displayed in a London gallery; a major client has been the National Trust. I sell my work directly and through local galleries, and also take commissions for landscapes and animal portraits. I work with a number of art groups, demonstrating and sharing what I have learned in the past few years, and what I am exploring. Please contact me for details or enquiries.
